Two weeks ago I took a huge step: I got my hair dyed for the first time. The result is a summery ombré look that looks very natural.
Before I got it dyed, it had been quite dry and some split ends were starting to show. Since I was scared of further hair breakage, I was looking for a way to change my hair colour without damaging my hair too much.
That’s how I stumbled upon Olaplex and the amazing before and after pictures that have been flooding Instagram and Pinterest lately. Olaplex repairs the disulfide bonds for stronger and healthier hair. If it’s used during a chemical treatment like bleaching it can prevent further breakage.
I decided to try it out for myself to see if it was as amazing as promised.
The treatment consisted of three parts. Olaplex 1 was applied together with the bleach and Olaplex 2 with a treatment to reach the colour I wanted. My hair stylist left the products in my hair for a couple of minutes to let them to do their magic. Once she rinsed it out and dried my hair I could already see a few results: My hair looked more alive and felt softer and smoother to the touch.
I still have some split ends but the bleaching process hasn’t harmed my hair any further. Additionally the Olaplex 3 home treatment that was included, softens my hair and gives it back the shine it would lose otherwise. Therefore, my hair looks and feels better.
For me, using Olaplex didn’t make a big difference because the bleaching process was not very harsh. My hair colour hasn’t changed drastically. In case you are going for a bigger change in colour using Olaplex makes more sense since your hair will be under more stress. All in all I think that the treatment definitely helps achieve healthier and shinier hair, just make sure you don’t expect any miracles.
Let me know if you have had any experience with Olaplex and how it worked for you.
