DIY: Lace Up Flats

This season’s it piece is clearly the lace up flat. If you haven’t gotten your hands on a pair of gorgeous lace up flats don’t fret. I’ve got a little DIY to show you how to make your own pair and it is really easy. You only need a few very simple materials and a pair of flats to create these. Read on to find out how to make them.

What you’ll need:

  • a punchtool
  • 2 leather strings or shoe laces (around 1,30 m each)
  • a pair of flats (I got mine from H&M for 7€)
  • (black string for the tassels)

First decide on how many holes you want your shoes to have and accordingly how many times you want your laces to crosse on top of the shoe. I went for one hole in the front and two on each side. Taking my punch tool (4mm diameter) I pressed it into the spots I had previously marked. This was easier than expected and I didn’t even need my hammer to create the holes.IMG_9559

Then, I took my leather strings which were 1,5m each, folded them in the middle and attached them to the front hole. To do so I pulled the folded middle through the hole to create a loop, through which I pulled the laces. Sounds more complicated than it is. (Trust me!) The rest is very obvious: I simply laced them up by pulling the string through the according holes. My string was too long on both ends so I shortened them.

They could be finished as they currently are but I wanted to make mine more individual by adding mini tassels.

So, using this adorable tutorial I made some mini tassels to attach to the ends of the laces. I put the leather string through the loop of the tassel and fastened it using more black string. I am being honest when I tell you that I spent 5 minutes on making these lace up flats and they turned out so amazing. Let’s jut hope the weather stays nice enough to wear them.
