DIY: Hanging Coconut Planter

Recently I have been inspired by my trip to Thailand when it comes to food or decoration. And since we basically ate coconuts with everything all the time, I simply had to use some left over shells for a DIY. I decided on this cute little hanging planter because, I mean, what room can’t use more adorable plants? So here’s the scoop on how to recreate this raw hanging coconut shell planter in no time:

What you’ll need:

  • Half a coconut shell
  • A small plant
  • Some thick yarn

Using a driller I first created two small holes on each side of the shell. I decided to leave 1 cm space to the edge to get a more stable result. I then went ahead and cut off around 50 cms of thick yarn and put one end through one of the holes.

I tied the end of the yarn on the side I had attached it to beforehand and looked at where I wanted my loop to be. To create the hook at the top, I shaped it into loop and tied the yarn around it twice. After that, I pulled the yarn through the other hole and fastened it here as well.

All there is left to do is put the plant into the shell and you’re ready to hang up the planter:

I love the way it turned out and it literally took me less than 5 minutes. I am looking forward to continuing such fun projects in the near future. (PS. doesn’t it look really cute with the globeΒ I made?)

Get inspired!
